What is the fiber content of most of the sweaters? Although we have a fine selection of wool and mohair sweaters, most of our fishermen knits are 50% wool and 50% acrylic. Many of our customers, who are sensitive to wool, have found that this combination does not bother them. We also have a good selection of cottons and acrylics.

How do I care for my new sweater? The wool blends, 50% wool and 50% acrylic, and the acrylics can go right into the washing machine. We recommend using warm water, gentle cycle and your regular washing detergent. Turning the sweater inside out will help prevent the small amount of pilling which is caused by abrasion. These sweaters can also go in the dryer. We have tried air fluffing as well as permanent press and either works great. For the 100% wools we recommend dry cleaning, although they can be hand washed. The mohairs do fine either by hand washing or dry cleaning. If hand washing, we recommend a gentle detergent such as used for baby items. The mohairs do well drying flat then into the dryer on air fluff.

Where are your sweaters knitted?  We get much of our high quality knitted goods from countries with a long seafaring tradition such as Portugal and Ireland.

What is your return policy? We will gladly accept returns, with receipt, for credit or exchange if the item has not been worn or damaged and the tags are still with the garment within 6 months of purchase. Please include a check to cover return postage. We will give you a store merchandise credit if there is no receipt or if the item is returned after 6 months of purchase up to 9 months of purchase. If the return item was subsequently marked down the merchandise credit will be for the marked down price. As we are a small specialty shop we regret we cannot accept any returns after 9 months of purchase. All sale items returned within that same period of time would be issued a store credit only. There are no returns on final sale items. We reserve the right to amend this policy at any time without publishing on the web site. Directions to our store From Boston and points South ~~ take Interstate 95 The Maine Turnpike, to Exit 19. At the end of the exit take a left on Rt. 109. Stay on Rt. 109 until it intersects with Rt. 1. At lights take a left on Rt. 1. From this intersection to the Maine Diner and Rt. 9 East is approximately 1.8 miles. You will stay on Rte. 9 East for about 4.5 miles. This will put you in the heart of Dock Square. We are located right at the entrance to the Public Parking Lot. Safe travels!
